Health Sciences Librarian

Duties and Responsibilities: A health science librarian provides access to medical information through books, pamphlets, and journals along many other things. They work in at library of health organizations, pharmaceutic companies, health information centers, and medical schools.

Salary: $58,000 Annually

Education: To become a health sciences librarian, you must have graduated college and take classes such as English, typing, math, and science. They must also have a four-year bachelor’s degree that includes classes like science and computer science. After that, you must have a master’s degree in library science.




Reflection: No, I would to like to become a health sciences librarian because I don’t think that this type of job will interest me in the future.

Oncologist
Duties and Responsibilities: An oncologist specializes in a variety of cancer diagnostics and treatment procedures such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Salary: $217,856

Education: To become an oncologist, you must have as much of 15 years of advanced education and training. This includes attending undergraduate school, medical school, and one or more residency training programs. Their certification involves for them to take a variety of oral exams and performance reviews.



Reflection: I would not like to become an oncologist because I think that it takes too much time to become one. I would like to have a career that involves a short amount of time in school but pays very well.

Vascular Surgeon

Duties and Responsibilities: A vascular surgeon specializes on focusing the arteries and veins that carry out blood through the body. They perform operations to repair damaged arteries and veins by removing blockages made by plaque or blood clot.  

Salary: Ranges from $67,871-$396,595

Education: Vascular Surgeons start by obtaining their bachelor’s degree in a science related field. After college they must attend medical school for four years and then they must be licensed by the United States Licensing Examination. After that they must undergo a five-year residency program and if they want to be more advanced in this field, they must also undergo a two-year fellowship program.


Reflection: I would not like to become a vascular surgeon because I think that it takes too much time to become one. I also wouldn't become one because I wouldn't like for peoples life’s to be at risk because of me.

Reflexology
Duties and Responsibilities: Reflexology is an alternative form of treatment involving the application of pressure to different parts of the body to improve general health. A Reflexologist treats pain by massaging their patient’s hand, feet, and ears to relieve stress.

Salary: $35,000 annually

Education: There is really no specific academic qualification that is required. Someone who wants to work in this career can have a high school diploma and pass their biology, chemistry, nutrition, and health courses. They can also attend a private school to help them.




Reflection: No, I would not like to become a reflexologist because it seems kind of boring and I don’t think that I would like it. The pay isn't very well either.

       Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Doctor

Duties and Responsibilities: ENT specialists are medical doctors responsible for Surgical and medical treatment of the ear, nose and throat. They are specialized to work on managing disorders of the upper pharynx, oral cavity, and nasal passage including many more areas of the body.

Salary: $205,000 per year

Education: To become an EMT specialist you must go through the traditional route of medical school. You must get a good grade on the MCAT and you must earn a high undergraduate GPA. During the last two years of medical school, you must take a specialized coursework in otolaryngology. You must also spend 3-5 years in the ENT residency program and you must be certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
                                                                             


Reflection: No I would not like to have this career in the future because it takes a long time to become an ENT specialist. I also don’t want to be one because it just doesn't seem like the job I want in a near future.

                                             Electrocardiograph Technician

Duties and Responsibilities: An electrocardiograph technician attaches electrodes to patients to in order to trace electrical impulses to the heart. They do all of this with a machine that helps people who have heart disease.

Salary: $25,998-$44,062

Education: They must complete courses with topics including echocardiology, medical terminology and, Electrocardiography including many more. They must also be certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians and American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals.
                                                                             


Reflection: No I would not like to become an electrocardiograph technician because I don’t think that this job would be fit for me.

   Dermatologist
Duties and Responsibilities: A dermatologist is a physician that treats conditions related to skin and they may also treat diseases that are found on the nails and hair. They use dermatological screenings to check the body and the skin for any types of cancer or other diseases.

Salary: $307,726 annually  

Education: to become a dermatologist, they must undergo through many classes specialized in the subject.  They must also be licensed to be able to practice in this field.


                                             






Reflection: No I would not like to become a dermatologist because this job doesn't really interest me. I don’t really think that I would be able to complete the tasks that come along with the job.

                                                       Dental Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities: Dental assistant perform many tasks requiring both inter personal and technical skill. They assist dentist during a variety of treatment procedures, they take dental radio graphs (x-rays), and they take impressions of teeth for study casts along with many other things.


Salary: $40,000- $50,000


Education: To become a dental assistant you must graduate a university, a vocational school, a technical school, or a dental school. You must also be accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. They must also be certified by the Dental Assisting National Boards.


                                           



Reflection: I would not like to become a dental assistant because it doesn’t seem like the type of job that I see myself doing in the future.

              Dental Lab Technician


Duties and Responsibilities: A dental laboratory technician is basically in charge of helping patients maintain a healthy oral by creating and fabricating things to improve their health.

Salary: Ranges between $20,000- $60,000


Education: To become a dental lab technician you must have an Associated degree in dental technology. They must also be accredited and certified by the National Board of Dental 
Technology.

                                                      


Reflection: No I would not like to become dental lab technician because I don’t really think that I would be able to complete the tasks that this job requires me to do. I am also not very interested in this type of labor.

Yoga Therapist


Duties and Responsibilities: Yoga therapists coordinate with participants and counsel on lifestyle and diet issues to ensure a healthy body and mind. They monitor the fitness level and requirements of all participants and design classes to suit individual needs.

Salary: $45,000 annually

Education: To become a yoga therapist, you must register with a RYT 200 or higher. They must also complete Continuing Education hours every three years to maintain their registration.


                                                                     

Reflection: I would not like to become a yoga instructor because I don’t think that it is the job for me. I am not interested in teaching yoga classes but I would take them for relaxation.

                                                               Chinese (Oriental) Medicine


Duties and Responsibilities: Oriental medicine practitioners use forms of acupuncture and treatment through the concept of “qi” which means energy in Chinese. They treat varieties of ailments including headaches, back pains, arthritis and other illnesses.

Salary: $61,000 per year


Education: Education and training requirements vary for each state. Some practitioners get licensed to be physicians but later take classes to become certified in oriental medicine. You must have a bachelor’s degree in biology or in another medical field, and then you must fill the state requirement to practice oriental medicine. You must also be certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
                                                      



Reflection: No I would not like to become an oriental medicine practitioner because it doesn't seem like the job that is fit for me. I don’t think that’s what I want to spend the rest of my life doing.

                                                Cardiologist

Duties and Responsibilities: Cardiologists are physicians that have had additional training to prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions of the cardiovascular system. That includes the heart and the body’s blood vessels.

Salary: $373,500- 532,000

Education: To become a cardiologist, you must complete a pre-med bachelor’s degree and the program you choose must be in heavy pre-med courses such as, anatomy, biology, chemistry, and statistics. They must also be licensed and they must pass the United States Medical License Examination.
                                                               
           


       Reflection: No I would not like to become a cardiologist because it doesn't interest me. I don’t think that I am fit for the job because I wouldn't want to mess up and hurt somebody. I just don’t think that this job is right for me.

                                                                      Trauma Nurse


Duties and Responsibilities: Trauma Nurses treat patients that have been in vehicular accidents, suffering gunshot wounds, puncture injuries with knifes, caught in fires, or dealing with some other traumatic emergency.


Salary:  $67,019 annually


Education: They must have a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing degree. They must also pass a basic life support course, and they must be licensed by the ACLS.
                                                                  
                                                                 
       

         Reflection: I would not like to be a trauma nurse because it seems like a job that needs people to be fast and I’m not fast. I don’t like dealing with accidents myself so I wouldn’t like to deal with other peoples accidents and end up hurting them even more.

Biomedical Engineer


Duties and Responsibilities: Biomedical engineers solve problems in biology and medicine with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care.


Salary: $86,960 annually


Education: They should take all of the high school science courses such as chemistry, physics, and biology. They must also take math courses such as calculus, courses in drafting or mechanical drawing, and computer programming classes.


                                                         




                    Reflection: I would not like to become a biomedical engineer because it doesn't look like a job that will suit me. I am not interested in anything involving medical care or anything involved with medicine.

Auricular Therapy



Duties and responsibilities: Auricular therapy is a form of alternative medicine based on the idea that the ear is a micro-system which reflects the entire body. They insert a number of needles in your ear for pain relief.


Salary: $49,844 annually


Education: They must have Completion of Application for Ariculotherapy Certification form. They must also have a 75% or higher about examining applicants knowledge on the auricular autonomy exam.







                     Reflection: I don’t think that I would like to become an auricular therapist because I am not very interested in becoming one. It doesn’t look like an exciting job and I don’t think it would be a god job for me.

Athletic trainer


Duties and responsibilities: Athletic trainers care for athletic injuries using physical therapy equipment, techniques, and medication. They also collaborate with physicians in order to develop and implement comprehensive rehabilitation programs.


Salary: $35,000-$75,000


Education: The minimum requirement to become an athletic trainer is bachelor’s degree. Experience requirements are clinics or internships with a college or professional sports team. They must be licensed with the Board of Certification which requires that applicants have a degree from and accredited school and a passing score on the qualifying exam.

                                                           




                    Reflection: I would not like to be an athletic trainer because I am not a fast person. To be an athletic trainer means that you have to be fast and help out people when they are injured, and I cannot handle that pressure.

Anesthesiologist


Duties and Responsibilities: An anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who cares for the patient before during and immediately following a surgical or medical procedure by administering appropriate anesthesia.

Salary: $343,000-$425,000

Education: They must take math and science classes in high school to prepare for medical school. They must also attend a four-year undergraduate program and enroll in pre-medicine or other science concentration. They must also spend one year in an internship and three more years in a residency program.
                                                



                             Reflection: I don’t think that I would like to become one because I don’t think that I would be prepared enough for this type of job. I would be worried if I didn’t put the anesthesia right and the patient would wake up while in surgery.
